Thanksgiving came and went. People explained what they were thankful for, ate pie, and enjoyed their post dinner nap. That’s the best part of Thanksgiving, being thankful (okay, and the apple pie.) It is easy to get caught up in the world, especially on social media, and get distracted with everything others have. I usually make a Christmas list based on the ads and posts of people I follow. We always look and want what others have and that’s completely okay if it makes you work harder. The thing we need to remember at the same time is we need to be thankful for what we have. The fact that you get to sleep in your bed every night, have heat in your house and a meal three times a day should make you feel so, so blessed.
One of my new year resolutions is to take a minute each day and thank God for what I have. Sometimes I feel as if I’m behind others in school or even career wise. I think my blog is not as developed as it should be or my feed isn’t as pretty. This can lead to some pretty big anxious thoughts that are SO unnecessary. To help beat the anxious thoughts and appreciate the little things today I made up a list of little things to do. Here is that list of ways to be thankful and grateful all year.
- Send a quote each week to someone new. Every person has *that* week, you know the one I’m talking about. Spilt coffee all over your white shirt, traffic made you late, and you forgot your wallet at home; all before Monday even starts. The tiniest thing, like a super inspirational or supportive quote, can turn a frown upside down. Appreciate your friends and family as they go through this whole thing called life that can be pretty tricky sometimes.
- Post about it. I’ve seen some people post every day in the month of November, or three times a day the week leading up to Thanksgiving. All of those are great, they should just be year round. Try to do it once or twice a month and tag the people you are thankful to have in your life. Show how much you appreciate them! I even made this cute template- feel free to use it and tag me so I can see!
- Write a letter. Every person loves getting a letter in the mail, it beats getting bills! A thank you note, just thinking of you note, or whatever your heart desires. If using a pen and paper isn’t your cup of tea then a long text works too. I try to write a list of reasons why I love my boyfriend and send it to him randomly. It’s fun to write and he likes getting them, win win!
We are so lucky to know the people we know, do the things we do, and be the people we are. Thanksgiving is over, but showing how grateful we are isn’t! Share the love and make sure everyone close to you knows what they mean to you.
